The West Plains Fire Department (WPFD) operates out of three strategically located stations. Each station is staffed by at least one Lieutenant or Engineer, ensuring a rapid and professional response to alarms. When an alarm is received, the on-duty personnel respond with the appropriate apparatus to the scene, while off-duty personnel provide additional support by responding in their personal vehicles.
WPFD serves as a central hub for the Region G Homeland Security All-Hazards Response Team. This includes personnel from various departments within the nine-county region G, and is equipped to handle emergencies ranging from hazardous materials incidents to technical rescues.
WPFD is also committed to fire prevention. Our notable prevention programs include fire safety presentations for area schools and businesses, commercial fire inspections, and home fire safety surveys. Our goal is to help the community prevent life-changing incidents through education and proactive measures.
Career Personnel:
The WPFD employs 15 career personnel on the city’s regular payroll, including the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, 13 full-time shift personnel (3 Lieutenants, 9 Engineers, and 1 Firefighter) who work a 24/72 shift (24 hours on-duty and 72 hours off-duty), and 3 part-time shift personnel who cover for vacations, sick leave, training and other absences. All career personnel are required to respond to emergency calls as often as possible when off-duty, ensuring continuous protection of our community.
