WPFD announces promotion of Fire Lieutenant to Assistant Fire Chief

[West Plains, Mo.] –  The West Plains Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Fire Lieutenant Wayne Cormier to the position of Assistant Fire Chief.

Lieutenant Cormier joined the West Plains Fire Department in 1999 as a paid-on-call employee. In 2000, he joined the department on a full-time basis and was promoted to Lieutenant in 2018. Throughout his career, Cormier has consistently shown exceptional leadership, commitment to safety, and a deep passion for serving the community. He has served as the department’s training officer and coordinator for the department’s Fire Academy since in inception in 2021.

Fire Chief Chris Sterner praised the promotion, stating, “Lieutenant Cormier has been an invaluable member of our team. His leadership skills, extensive experience, and dedication to our department and community make him the perfect fit for the role of Assistant Fire Chief. I am confident that he will continue to uphold the highest standards of excellence in this new position.”

In his new role, Assistant Fire Chief Cormier will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing emergency response strategies, and continuing to advance the department’s mission of protecting the lives and property of West Plains residents. He will work closely with Fire Chief Sterner and other department leaders to ensure the highest level of service and safety for the community.

Assistant Fire Chief Cormier expressed his gratitude for the promotion, saying, “I am honored and excited to take on this new role. Serving this community has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I look forward to continuing to work with our outstanding team to keep our residents safe and our fire department strong.”
