Charter Review Commission

The Charter Review Commission is an independent citizen body established by the City Council at least once every ten years to review the City Charter and consider potential updates. The commission consists of at least 9 City residents who are qualified voters. Members are appointed by City Council. The Commission evaluates the Charter and may recommend amendments for consideration by the City’s voters.

ESTABLISHING LEGISLATION

  • Sec. 12.7. – Charter Review Commission.
     

    From time to time, but no less often than every ten years, the Council shall provide for a Charter Review Commission to review this Charter and to recommend to the voters of the City proposed amendments, if any, to this Charter. The members of the Charter Review Commission shall be selected as provided by the Council. The Charter Review Commission shall consist of at least nine citizens who are qualified voters of the City, none of whom shall be an elected official of the City or City administrative officer. The Charter Review Commission shall, within 12 months of its first meeting, report to the voters as many amendments to the Charter as it shall deem advisable.
